Call for Sites
The council undertook a consultation during July and August 2017 asking if there were potential sites that could be considered for development to be submitted. The responses helped to inform the council’s Brownfield Register.
Only two sites came forward of which we were unaware. The Brownfield Register was published at the end of 2017 and has 37 sites containing a total of 36 ha of land.
Watford is heavily reliant on brownfield land; 94% of all new housing in the last ten years has been on brownfield sites.
The Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA) is an assessment to identify the amount of land that could support new housing and employment. This is done through the identification of sites and broad locations, and then assessing their development potential by considering their suitability, availability and achievability. The methodology was consulted upon in October 2017.
